Enjoy world-class skiing with a local ski hill vibe at Whitewater. This Kootenay mountain hideaway, near the historic lakeside town of Nelson, has some of the deepest powder around.

Powder Alert:  Whitewater Ski Resort gets an average of 12 m (39 ft) of the fluffy white stuff every year.

Experts are in their element among Whitewater’s open bowls, glades, steep chutes and long, twisting fall lines. With soft groomed slopes for cruising and a vertical of up to 623 m (2,044 ft), there’s something for everyone.

Beginners can head for the welcoming terrain at Silver King. Seventy-six crowd-free runs and short lift lines mean plenty of fresh tracks to go around.

Later on, grab a burger or a flavourful curry at the mountain’s legendary, award-winning Fresh Tracks Café. SKI Magazine placed it second on a list of the “10 Best Ski Resort Cafeterias” in 2011.
Nelson, a Victorian-era lakeside gem bursting with arts and culture, is nearby and the perfect place to stay when you’re visiting.
