Fernie Alpine Resort is a charming little ski town with big mountains and a heart to match. Few resorts in the Canadian Rockies have more snow, more runs or more vertical.
Diehards can take on unchallenged powder stashes and double black diamond runs. But there are enough bunny hills to make beginners feel at home too. And the Polar Peak Chairlift gives you access to 22 extra runs and 1,082 m (3,550 ft) of stunning vertical.
Plus, there’s plenty to do beyond the stellar slopes, which is a big part of why Fernie got the nod for one of the “Best Winter Trips” from National Geographic in 2012. You can hop on a snowmobile, cruise the gorgeous glades in a dogsled and lots more. And when you’re done, wind down at any of the on-hill restaurants and bars.
